And he marvelled because of their unbelief.
And he went round about the villages, teaching.

Note on the Revised Common Lectionary Gospel Reading for this Sunday:
The former Common Lectionary used
Mark 6:1-6 for this Sunday and
Mark 6:7-13 for next Sunday,
consistent with the Catholic and Episcopal lectionaries.
In 2006 I am using Mark 6:1-6 for Proper 9, and Mark 6:7-13 for Proper 10. This enables consistency with the Episcopal and Catholic readings, and the previous Common Lectionary. My preference to preaching on the Beheading of John the Baptist (next week's RCL reading) is to discuss that event in an adult Bible Study session rather than Sunday morning worship celebration with children and with others less familiar with the whole Gospel. This reading also continues the empowerment theme which seems to be interrupted by the Beheading (as one would expect).
